FAQ

Company background

Answer:

In 1961, a group of the company’s avid skiers got together and created a glove with knuckle protection for skiing (designed to shield the hands from downhill racing gates). At a time when branding was becoming more and more important, they launched a brand dedicated to ski gloves that they called KOMBI after their first design, which combined the promise of warmth and function. Today, that promise continues to warm the hearts of Canadian families and winter lovers around the world.

Answer:

The top section represents the upper body and a shelter. The lower section represents a foundation, the lower body, and a smile! In the middle, KOMBI joins the upper and the lower bodies. It’s KOMBI putting its heart and soul into everything we create for you.

Production

Answer:

We work with 15 factories in China that we have selected with great care. Many of them work exclusively for us as a joint venture, and each one is certified by an independent audit that ensures they meet international health and safety requirements. Our Montreal production team visits our factories several times a year, and we also have an experienced Shanghai-based team dedicated to overseeing the implementation of our quality standards and maintaining good relations with our factories.

Answer:

KOMBI is committed to using only ethically sourced animal-based materials. Our merino wool is certified non-mulesed wool. Mulesing is a cruel and harmful practice towards sheep.
Our down and leather comes from animals that have been treated as gently as possible and have not been subjected to unnecessary harm.
In addition, our Primaloft® synthetic insulation and Polygiene® odour control technology are bluesign® certified. This means harmful substances are eliminated right from the beginning of the manufacturing process, and production follows environmentally friendly and safe standards.

Community

Answer:

As a family business, we care a lot about the well-being of kids in our community. That is why we are a proud partner of Tremblant 24 H, the North American ski industry’s largest fundraising event. Tremblant 24h supports organizations that improve the well-being of children who are sick or in need.

We are also involved in over 20 community-based programs. We support schools, homeless shelters and hospitals, as well as organizations like Share the Warmth and Just for Kids. Whether through in-kind donations or funding, our policy of giving back to the community comes from the heart and flows directly from what our brand was built on: human warmth.

Finding the right products

Answer:

Check out our size chart and remember: finding the right size makes all the difference. If your gloves are too tight, they will restrict airflow and your hands will get cold. It’s better to have gloves that feel a tiny bit too big, because they will help your blood circulate and keep you warm.

Answer:

People ask us this all the time! There’s no perfect answer to this question, because warmth depends on individual blood circulation, weather conditions and the activity you will be doing. But what we can say is that our insulated gloves and mitts with a Warmth Factor of 4 are typically the warmest. They feature the most advanced water and wind protection such as a GORE-TEX membrane and premium insulation (Primaloft® or KOMBI Down) for maximum warmth.
Here are some tips to keep your hands toasty:
Down is widely recognized to be one of the warmest types of insulation, but if your hands tend to sweat, you would be better off a synthetic insulation like Primaloft® or Ultraloft®. You can even take synthetic insulation to the next level by combining it with one of our best-in-class waterproof and breathable membranes like GORE-TEX or Waterguard®.
Try mitts instead of gloves. Less surface area and fewer seams mean less heat loss! Just keep in mind that gloves tend to offer more dexterity.
Gloves conserve heat but don’t produce it. Add heat with KOMBI Hand Warmers or liners.
Do your gloves fit your hands properly? The right size makes a huge difference. Gloves that are too tight will restrict airflow and leave your hands feeling cold.

Answer:

You may have noticed that some of our mitts and gloves have a Waterguard® membrane, while others have a waterproof membrane. So, what is the difference between them? Well, for one thing, the Waterguard® membrane was developed by KOMBI to offer a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane that keeps your hands dry and warm. KOMBI’s Waterguard® membrane is known for keeping moisture out and preventing infiltrations.
Our waterproof membrane will also prevent water infiltration. However, since it is not breathable, it does not wick away moisture and sweat. It is a great option for people who don’t sweat or for low-intensity activities such as walking.

Answer:

When looking for the warmest base layer, you should consider the weight and composition of the fabric. The rule of thumb: the heavier the fabric, the warmer it will be.
Finding the heaviest and softest fabric is easy when shopping in physical stores, but it’s a whole other story when you’re shopping online. This simple list will help you sort it out:

Fabric: 100% MERINO
Weight: 225gsm
Warmth Factor: 4
100% MERINO is a soft and somewhat stretchable fabric that has a natural antimicrobial quality which makes it odour resistant. Its moisture wicking quality helps keep you dry and comfortable. It provides the highest warmth level.

Fabric: ACTIVEWARM
Weight: 210gsm
Warmth Factor: 3
ACTIVE WARM fabric, made of 90% polyester and 10% elastane, is brushed on the inside to trap warmth and provide softness. The integrated ACCU-DRI® moisture management technology wicks away droplets of moisture and keeps you dry.

Fabric: MERINO BLEND
Weight: 190gsm
Warmth Factor: 2
MERINO BLEND is a two-layer fabric. The outer layer, made of 80% polyester and 20% merino wool, provides warmth. The inner layer of 97% polyester and 3% elastane ensures softness and comfort for the skin. The integrated ACCU-DRI® moisture management technology wicks away droplets of moisture and keeps you dry, and the antibacterial treatment ensures it stays odour free.

Fabric: ACTIVESPORT
Weight: 175gsm
Warmth Factor: 1
Our soft and quick-dry ACTIVE SPORT fabric is made of 88% polyester and 12% elastane. The integrated ACCU-DRI® moisture management technology wicks away droplets of moisture, and the antibacterial treatment ensures it stays odour-free. ACTIVE SPORTS is a premium fabric for high-energy level activities.

Answer:

KOMBI socks are made of different materials (drirelease® merino wool or Primaloft®, wool blends and ultra-soft acrylic) and come with different amounts of padding (light, hybrid or heavy cushioning). A Primaloft® or wool heavyweight sock will typically keep you warmer because of its level of insulation and materials. If you’re a hard-core skier who tends to sweat more, our light-cushioned socks will keep you just as warm because of their intense wicking capability.

Need a little help to keep you feet warm? Try our heating socks with their 3 levels of warmth.

Just remember that wet or tight boots are your feet’s worst enemy, and that socks can’t save you from the cold if your boots aren’t helping.

Answer:

While other brands provide temperature ratings – and as much as we appreciate that clarity – we learned from speaking with consumers in the city and on ski slopes that warmth is almost impossible to accurately categorize with ratings. That’s because warmth depends on a person’s own physical characteristics, in addition to outdoor temperature, humidity, wind conditions, and activity levels. We hate to disappoint, which is why we decided not to include temperature ratings.

Answer:

It is important to always refer to your product’s care label prior to washing it. You can find care instructions on the label stitched inside any of our products or on our website. We do not recommend washing gloves or mitts in a washing machine, as it will deteriorate the outer shell fabric and wash away the water resistant coating. In addition, it can damage the inside lining. The best way to care for your KOMBI gloves and mitts is to use a wet cloth with soft soap. Do not tumble dry at high heat, as it can deteriorate the outer shell and the insert. You can tumble dry them at low temperature, hang them to dry or lay them flat near a heat source, but not directly on top of a heater.
